The Best Exercises to Boost Mitochondrial Health & Energy

HIIT has also been shown to improve glucose transport and insulin sensitivity quickly, thanks to the rapid signalling triggered by lactate and metabolic stress. Its intensity drives faster activation of glucose clearance compared with steadier efforts. A clinical research in people with type 2 diabetes has shown that structured HIIT programs have been linked to improvements in glycemic control, alongside an improvement on mitochondrial function.

Why the combination works better than either alone

Well, they train different aspects of the same system. Zone 2 builds an aerobic base, while HIITI  delivers a sharp stimulus.
